[MONTGOMERY, Ala.] -- The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reminds boat owners they may save time by renewing boat registrations online. This service is open to resident and non-resident boat owners whose information requires no changes or corrections.
“In today’s fast-paced world, we all seek ways to be more efficient. We at ALEA are pleased to offer this online service, which is quicker and more convenient for our customers,” said Col. John E. Richardson, director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety, which comprises both Marine Patrol and Highway Patrol Divisions.
Customers are simply required to have access to the Internet, possess a valid credit or debit card and visit our website.
Immediately upon payment, registrants may print their temporary boat registration certificates, which are valid for 30 days, or until they receive their official certificates via mail. First-time applicants and those who are making tranfers or submitting applications for replacement must continue to complete the process at their local license commissioner or probate office.
In addition, ALEA’s Marine Patrol encourages Alabamians of all ages to make water safety a priority this summer. The agency recently wrapped up its participation in National Safe Boater Week and emphasized the importance of using life jackets. It’s simple: Wearing a life jacket is the easiest life-saving strategy for safe boating, Richardson said.
“While it may start off as a perfect day for boating, conditions could change quickly and become hazardous, especially if you end up in the water. Ensure an enjoyable time by choosing to always be a responsible boater and insist everyone on the boat wear a life jacket,” Richardson said. Troopers also remind boaters of the dangers of operating boats while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, knowing navigational rules and having a proper lookout.
