MONTGOMERY – With summer boating season around the corner, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Alabama State Department of Education remind customers of the new time-saving option to obtain an Alabama vessel license online.
Since Jan. 1 of this year, a customers’ test score automatically is transmitted to ALEA’s Driver License Division after they have completed and passed a Basic Boating Safety Course through one of the following sources: Department of Education Driver’s Education, approved online boating education vendor or ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division. The agency’s Driver License Division then will add the vessel license (V endorsement) to the customer’s driver license and mail the customer a Boater Safety Certificate. Afterward, the customer will be eligible to go to www.alea.gov to purchase a duplicate driver license with the V endorsement or visit the county probate office or one of ALEA’s Driver License Offices to obtain the updated driver license.
Not only is this a great example of Alabama’s state agencies and other partners collaborating on programs designed to make services more convenient for customers, but it also provides additional options as ALEA continues to modify its Driver License Division operations in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
