[Mobile, Ala.] The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol and Aviation Units continue to assist the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) with search and rescue for four missing persons in the Mobile Bay stemming from Saturday’s deadly storm.
"I want to extend my condolences to those who have lost loved ones during Saturday's tragic incident in Mobile Bay," Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said. "ALEA is charged with helping protect the citizens of Alabama, and we are committed to doing so. Our Aviation Unit was the first air asset on scene in Mobile Bay, and all available Marine Patrol boats and personnel have responded and continue to search.”
From the initial notification of the incident, ALEA’s Aviation Unit played a vital role in search and rescue efforts with the utilization of two helicopters during the three-day period. Marine Patrol Troopers deployed four boats, rescuing dozens of mariners whose vessels had capsized in the bay. The Marine Patrol Troopers continue to canvass the water in search of the remaining four missing persons. Additionally, ALEA has staffed the command center located on Dauphin Island.
Marine Patrol Troopers and USCG will investigate the individual vessel accidents. However, search and rescue and life-safety efforts remain the priority.
