MONTGOMERY -- The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Secretary Hal Taylor issued the following statement concerning Officer Marquis Moorer of the Selma Police Department, who was killed Tuesday, July 27, while on duty:
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Officer Moorer who was killed early Tuesday morning while on duty. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow officers with the Selma Police Department during this extremely difficult time. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten as we mourn alongside the entire law enforcement community.
This senseless violence must come to an end. Every day, brave men and women put on the uniform and badge promising to protect the public and keep citizens’ lives safe while sacrificing their own. Today is a tragic reminder of just how dangerous a career in law enforcement can be.
On behalf of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, I want to assure everyone that we are absolutely committed to utilizing all available resources to apprehend the suspect or suspects involved in this horrendous tragedy. We are fully involved in the investigation and are currently taking all the necessary steps to ensure every facet of this case is handled with care and diligence but is conducted in a manner that brings justice to bear both quickly and swiftly.”
This investigation is active and ongoing. If you have any information regarding the death of Officer Moorer, please contact ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) at 1-855-75-CRIME or you may submit a tip online via ALEA’s Fusion Center: Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Online Services (alea.gov).
