MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force announce the results of a multi-agency violent crime reduction initiative titled Operation Triple Beam. Beginning in June and continuing throughout the summer, Operation Triple Beam partnered federal, state, and local law enforcement who were focused and determined to reduce violent crime and take dangerous offenders off the streets of Mobile County.
This initiative targeted hyper-violent criminal elements through proactive investigations that resulted in substantial results. Authorities seized 83 illegal firearms, $24,000 in U.S. currency, and more than $79,000 worth of illegal substances such as crack cocaine, marijuana, spice, methamphetamine, illegal prescription medications, and codeine. In total, 163 persons were charged with felony offences that resulted from Operation Triple Beam. It is expected that a number of these cases will result in federal indictment by the United States Attorney.
In total, more than 30 law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole, Mobile Police Department, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) combined resources in a partnership to target the individuals whose only intent was to commit violent crime, distribute narcotics, and instil fear in the communities of Mobile County. The work of these law enforcement officers through intense investigation, execution of arrest and search warrants, and a visible presence forced criminal offenders to alter their criminal behavior. “The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is committed to combating violent crimes in Alabama,” said Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier. “I appreciate the support and strategic partnerships with our federal, state and local partners as we continue to confront this problem and work towards alleviating violent crime and the unlawful production and distribution of illegal drugs in our state.”
Operation Triple Beam is a quick hitting violent crime suppression operation. This initiative partners federal, state, and local law enforcement together combining each agencies specific investigative specialty in a collective, organized, and targeted manner. Operation Triple Beam is a tested and proven successful model and has been used in cities such as Atlanta, New Orleans, Tulsa, San Antonio, and Chicago. Because this initiative is focused on hyper-violent groups and individuals, the intelligence provided by each agency is critical to the success. As demonstrated here in Mobile; this targeted model is as applicable and effective in mid-size as it is in the larger cities.
The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is made up of partnering agencies including the, Alabama Department of Corrections, Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, Alabama National Guard Counterdrug Program, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Brewton Police Department, Mobile Police Department, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Monroeville Police Department, Prichard Police Department, Selma Police Department, United States Border Patrol, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
