The Highway Patrol Division includes 7 troops made up of 17 posts, the Motor Carrier Safety Unit, and the Communications Unit. Highway Patrol accounts for approximately 65 percent of the arresting officers within the agency. Troopers patrol approximately 69,500 miles of rural roadways in Alabama and are responsible for motor vehicle law enforcement, rural traffic crash investigation, and special duty performance during emergencies.
